Computer Lab Pre-Assessment

This is a preassessment that I use at the beginning of the school year. It is offered as an example of assessments that I use for my students.

 Computer Writing Lab Assignment -- Seventh Grade English 

Please leave this sheet in the computer lab.

Computer Writing Lab Pre-Assessment
Purposes: 1. Assess your current skill level for using the computer.
2. Provide information about your writing interests and abilities.
In this assignment you will tell your teacher about your writing skills, problems, and goals.
-- You will not receive points on this assignment unless it shows honest reflection about your own writing.

The fonts you may use are Times or Courier in 12 or 14 pt. size, or Arial, Geneva, Helvetica, Lucinda Bright or Lucinda Sans, Monoco, or New York in 11 or 12 pt. size.

Start with the name block at the top of the page.

Space down a couple of lines and begin writing.

Tell the teacher about the following:

1. Your writing strengths – What do you do well when you write?

2. Your writing interests – What sorts of things do you like to write – either in or outside of school?

3. Your improvement in writing – What have you gotten better at (in writing) over the past year or so?

4. Your writing weaknesses – What problems do you have when you write? What is hard for you? What do teachers and others say you need to do better?

5. Your writing goals – What goals would you like to set to improve your writing by the end of your seventh grade year?
